VISA INFORMATION


Basic Requirements

All Foreigners wishing to visit India must obtain a valid Visa. The basic requirements for obtaining a visa are as follows:

  • Valid Passport. The passport should be valid for at least six months.
  • Visa application form duly filled in.
  • Two recent passport size photographs.
  • Requisite fees.

Fees

The fees with effect from 1st of October, 2000 would be as follows:

  • TRANSIT VISA (VALID FOR 15 DAYS - SINGLE/DOUBLE ENTRY) EACH STAY NOT TO EXCEED 72 HOURS. C $16/-
  • STUDENT VISA (VALID FOR THE DURATION OF THE COURSE OR FOR A PERIOD OF FIVE YEARS, WHICHEVER IS LESS - MULTIPLE ENTRY) C $115/-
  • ALL KINDS OF VISAS OTHER THAN TRANSIT AND STUDENT VISAS VALID UP TO SIX MONTHS (MULTIPLE ENTRY) C $62/-
  • ALL KINDS OF VISAS OTHER THAN TRANSIT AND STUDENT VISAS VALID FOR OVER SIX MONTHS AND UP TO ONE YEAR (MULTIPLE ENTRY) C $100/-
  • ALL KINDS OF VISAS OTHER THAN TRANSIT AND STUDENT VISAS VALID FOR OVER ONE YEAR AND UP TO FIVE YEARS (MULTIPLE ENTRY)C $200/-
  • A FEES OF $30 CAN IS CHARGED AS FEDEX FEES.

Additional Document requirements

For Business Visas and Student Visas, the following additional documents are required:
Business Visa: A letter from the company/organisation sponsoring the applicant stating the purpose of the visit.
Student Visa: Letter of admission from the Educational Institution in India.

Visa fees are payable by Money Order/Bank Draft/Certified Cheque. No personal cheques will be accepted Return Mailing charges should accompany applications sent by mail.

Types of Visa

The types of visas granted are as follows:
Visitor Visa:
Issued to people of Indian origin, ladies accompanying their husbands who are posted to India on company business and vice versa. This can be availed of for a maximum period of five years. Extendable at the discretion of concerned authorities

Tourist Visas:
With validity of six months from date of issue and not extendable

Business Visas:
Business visas can be granted up to a maximum period of five years. Applications for business visas should be accompanied by letters from the applicant's company and also from the Indian company they are going to have business with, stating the purpose of the visit.

Student Visas:
Same as business visa. Letter of admission from the respective School/Institution should accompany the application.

Transit Visa:
Valid for 72 Hrs stay in India with a maximum of two entries

A Transit visa would be required if a person intends to stay in India during transit. If the traveller proposes to catch a connecting flight without leaving the airport, no visa would be required.
